Ocean City has long been a town that values artistry, craftsmanship, and community—and nowhere was that more evident than at the grand opening of Salt Works Studio’s brand-new location at 301 West Avenue.

On a breezy spring morning, a crowd gathered outside the freshly painted storefront, where a ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the next exciting chapter for this beloved local business. Ocean City’s leadership and community members came out in support: Executive Director of the Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce Michele Gillian, Mayor Jay Gillian, Councilmen Terry Crowley Jr., Keith Hartzell, and Dave Winslow, and Cape May County Commissioner Bobby Barr. Also in attendance were the Gallagher family, close friends, and longtime supporters of the studio.

It was a celebration of growth, hard work, and a business that has become a quiet but powerful anchor in Ocean City’s creative scene.

“We’re just so grateful for the support,” said co-founder Kristin Gallagher, standing beside her husband Chad. “This really is a dream come true.”

A Studio Born from Community and Craft

Salt Works Studio began in 2017 with a simple but inspired idea: to create a space where design lovers, artists, and locals could find high-end custom framing, thoughtful consultation, and an inviting collection of gifts and local art. Kristin, who has always had a deep love for aesthetics and framing, saw an unmet need in Ocean City and decided to fill it with something special.

“We wanted to create something that felt personal,” she said. “A place that was approachable but elevated, relaxed but polished. A space where people could take their time, be part of the creative process, and really enjoy the experience.”

That vision quickly found a partner in Larry, a master picture framer and artist with decades of experience. A serendipitous introduction through a mutual friend led to what both now describe as a defining friendship and partnership.

“I honestly can’t remember Salt Works before Larry,” said Kristin. “And I certainly cannot imagine it without him either.”

Larry brought not just technical skill and a perfectionist’s eye, but a hometown connection. After running a successful framing studio in Philadelphia’s Chestnut Hill neighborhood, he returned to the shore where he grew up—and where he once rowed on the Henley-winning Holy Spirit crew team in 1981. That same discipline and pride now inform every frame that comes through the studio.

More Than Framing—An Experience

Step inside Salt Works Studio and you’ll immediately feel the blend of laid-back sophistication that defines the brand. Natural light spills across the curated displays of handcrafted frames, minimalist gifts, and original art. There’s a sense of calm here, of thoughtful design and genuine hospitality.

“We do everything on-site and by hand,” said Kristin. “From the moment someone walks in with a piece they care about, we treat it with respect and care. Whether it’s a family photo, a cherished painting, or a vintage concert poster, we approach every project with the same level of detail and attention.”

Clients can expect precision craftsmanship, archival materials, and design consultations that take the time they need to feel just right. There’s no rush here—only a dedication to quality, creativity, and the kind of customer care that builds lasting relationships.

And with their new, larger location on West Avenue, Salt Works is now able to offer even more: expanded gallery space for local artists, room for small events, and a growing collection of carefully selected design items and gifts.

Honoring the Past, Building the Future

Adding a touching note to the ribbon-cutting ceremony was the appearance of Bob Hartman, the building’s previous owner. A local engineer who built his career manufacturing parts for picture frames—a fitting connection—Bob stopped by to wish the Gallaghers well.

That full-circle energy was felt throughout the day. From the community leaders showing support to the long-time customers stopping in to admire the new space, the event was a reminder of what makes Ocean City special: people investing in each other, honoring craftsmanship, and celebrating local success.

A Creative Hub with Heart

Looking ahead, Kristin and Chad hope that Salt Works Studio continues to evolve as a hub for local art and creativity.

“It’s more than just framing,” said Kristin. “It’s about storytelling. It’s about helping people preserve their memories, showcase their passions, and create something beautiful for their homes.”

With the new location officially open and the studio’s reputation for quality and care firmly in place, it’s safe to say that Salt Works Studio is framing not just art—but an enduring legacy in the heart of Ocean City.

So whether you’re a longtime customer or a first-time visitor, drop by 301 West Avenue. You’ll be greeted with a smile, a keen eye for design, and maybe—just maybe—a story worth framing.
