A Splash of Fun and Community: Inside the OC Waterpark with General Manager Christine Palma

With summer right around the corner, the team at OC Waterpark is gearing up for another exciting season — and there’s no shortage of updates, events, and local flavor to talk about.

We sat down with Christine Palma, the energetic and passionate general manager of the OC Waterpark, who gave us a behind-the-scenes look at what’s new, what’s coming, and why this classic boardwalk attraction remains one of Ocean City’s best-kept secrets.

Christine brings a wealth of experience to the Jersey Shore. “This is my 30th year in the industry and 25th year in the water park specifically,” she told us. Now entering her fifth season with OC Waterpark, Christine says she’s finally starting to feel like a local — almost.

The water park has undergone a colorful transformation in recent years, with refinished slides, fresh paint, added bamboo and theming, and plenty of flowers to bring the park to life.

“We want to make it feel like other water parks you’ve been to, but still with our unique Ocean City vibe,” Christine said.

The park features three major slide towers, a lazy river, an activity pool, a pirate ship play area for kids, and a new spray pad added just last year. And yes — mini-golf is included with your all-day ticket.

With all-day passes, three-hour options, and season passes, Christine says it’s one of the best deals families will find in Ocean City.

One of the most exciting additions this year is Friday night Foam Parties. These family-friendly events will feature DJs, food, and night slides — a throwback to something locals have long been asking for.

“We bought a foam cannon over the winter and tested it on our front lawn — the neighborhood kids wouldn’t leave,” Christine said with a laugh.

There’s also a special “Schools Out” party planned, plus events like Christmas in July and a revamped mascot birthday bash with local characters marching the boardwalk.

With around 150 employees — including 75-80 trained lifeguards — safety is top of mind.

“All of our guards are trained through our own program. We’re constantly preparing our staff,” Christine explained.

Beyond the thrills, Christine and her team are committed to the community. OC Waterpark is once again participating in the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson on June 27, a national event promoting water safety for kids.

The park is also collecting new bathing suits and goggles to donate to kids in need throughout New Jersey, helping them access swim lessons and water-based programs.

“We started this in 2018, and last year we distributed thousands of suits across the state,” Christine shared. “It’s about getting kids comfortable in the water so they can learn to swim and stay safe.”
