Battle at the Beach Draws Top High School Football Talent to Ocean City
The Battle at the Beach, a high school football showcase, is set to kick off its fifth year at Carey Stadium in Ocean City, New Jersey, on Thursday, August 28th. The event has evolved significantly since its inception, transforming from a single-game to a major high school football event.
This year’s Battle at the Beach will feature three of the top ten teams in the country. The impressive lineup includes IMG from Florida and East St. Louis, both of whom will be playing against some of New Jersey’s top teams. East St. Louis will face Bergen Catholic, while IMG will play Winslow. According to Ocean City High School Head Coach Sean Matthews, these games will feature many future Division I and Division I-AA football players. The event also draws the attention of college recruiters and others from the football world. Last year, for example, NFL coach Bill Belichick was in attendance.
The 2025 event will be a one-day affair, a change from its usual format. However, organizers are hopeful that the event will return to a three-day format next year.
The Ocean City Red Raiders will kick off their season at the Battle by the Beach against Oakcrest. The team is returning some key players, including quarterback Jackson Becker, who led the team to a playoff victory as a freshman. The offense also features Tristan Schmidt, a running back who had over 600 rushing yards last year. In addition to Schmidt, the team has a few other promising running backs, including Cole Gareffi, Anthony DiLorenzo, and Samir Kelly. According to Coach Matthews, the team is a great group of kids who are working hard for each other.
For fans wanting to attend the event, tickets must be purchased online. One ticket grants admission to all four games on that day, and children under 10 are free.
The Battle at the Beach has become more than just a football game; it’s a spectacle that brings some of the nation’s top high school talent to Ocean City. This year’s lineup promises an unforgettable day of football at one of the country’s most iconic venues. Whether you’re a local fan eager to support the Ocean City Red Raiders in their season opener or a college football enthusiast looking for a glimpse of future stars, this is an event you won’t want to miss.
