Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Returns to Ocean City, NJ, Honoring Mayor Jay Gillian
The American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is set to return to the iconic Ocean City Boardwalk on Sunday, October 12, 2025, bringing together thousands of participants for the nation’s largest and most impactful breast cancer movement.
The event, celebrating its 18th year in Ocean City, will kick off at the OCNJ Civic Center (500 Boardwalk) with activities starting at 8:30 AM. The emotional Survivor Celebration is at 9:45 AM, followed by the start of the walk at 10:00 AM.
The Making Strides walk is a powerful celebration of courage and hope, uniting breast cancer survivors, thrivers, caregivers, and families. Last year’s Ocean City event was a resounding success, uniting over 5,000 walkers and raising more than $526,912 for the American Cancer Society (ACS). These funds support groundbreaking breast cancer research and essential patient services, including free rides to treatment, free places to stay when treatment is far from home, and a live 24/7 helpline.
The event is a vital opportunity to “spread this story of community, resilience & hope.” Attendees can look forward to a full morning of activities, including a Survivor & Thriver Tent, photo opportunities on a GIANT pink chair, sponsor tents, and unique giveaways.
This year, the American Cancer Society is taking a special moment to honor Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian for his steadfast support of the Making Strides movement.
“This year marks the 18th year that the City of Ocean City has hosted our Making Strides Walk,” Dorothy Rothman from the American Cancer Society stated. “From the very beginning, Mayor Gillian and the city have been unwavering partners in supporting our mission to end breast cancer.”
Mayor Gillian will be presented with a plaque on stage during the walk as a symbol of gratitude for his long-standing partnership. The ACS praised the Mayor’s commitment to community health and survivorship, adding that his support has been integral in making Ocean City “such a special place for this event—the boardwalk, the welcoming spirit, and the way the community rallies… creates an unforgettable atmosphere of hope and determination.”
