In a show titled Wayne Newton: Up Close and Personal with The OC POPS, the iconic entertainer will offer a unique performance, unlike anything his fans have seen before.
Known for his captivating stage presence and a career that has spanned decades, Newton will share songs and stories from his celebrated life. The show, which has been recognized with the 2022 Trip Advisor Traveler’s Choice Award as a top 10% attraction worldwide, promises to be an evening of classic hits and personal anecdotes.
For over six decades, Wayne Newton has been synonymous with Las Vegas, earning him the moniker “The Midnight Idol” and “Mr. Entertainment.” His career is a testament to his incredible talent and work ethic, with over 30,000 live shows in Las Vegas alone and an astounding 165 albums recorded to date. He is instantly recognizable for his signature song, “Danke Schoen,” as well as a string of other popular hits including “Daddy, Don’t You Walk So Fast,” “Red Roses for a Blue Lady,” and “Summer Wind.”
Born Carson Wayne Newton, he began his professional career as a child. A gifted musician, he taught himself to play 13 different instruments and performed with his older brother, Jerry, before launching his solo career in the early 1960s. His big break came with the help of stars like Jackie Gleason and Bobby Darin, which paved the way for his solo success and a career that has made him one of the highest-paid performers in entertainment history. Beyond the stage, Newton has also appeared in films and on television, including memorable roles in Vegas Vacation and the James Bond film, License to Kill.
Beyond his musical and acting achievements, Newton is a dedicated humanitarian and a passionate supporter of the U.S. military. He took over the role of USO goodwill ambassador from Bob Hope in 2001 and has since made numerous tours to entertain troops around the world. For his unwavering patriotism and commitment to the armed forces, the U.S. Department of Defense bestowed upon him its highest civilian award, making him the only American entertainer to have performed for troops in every country of conflict.
His legacy is further cemented by a host of accolades, including the “Secretary of the Navy Public Service Award,” the “Bob Hope Award for Excellence in Entertainment,” and the “VFW Hall of Fame Award.” He is one of only two people to receive the City of Las Vegas Medal of Honor and has been named “Ambassador of Goodwill” for the state of Nevada. The city’s McCarran International Airport even has a main thoroughfare named “Wayne Newton Boulevard” in his honor. He also has a star on both the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the very first star on the Las Vegas Walk of Fame.
Tickets for this one-of-a-kind concert with the Ocean City POPS are priced at $81 and $71 and are available online and at the Music Pier box office.
