Ocean City Air Show Weekend Takes Flight with Airport Festival Kickoff
Ocean City is set to host a spectacular weekend of aerial entertainment with its annual Air Show Weekend. The weekend promises high-flying action and family-friendly activities, with clear, sunny skies forecasted for both days.
The festivities kick off on Saturday, September 13th, with the Ocean City Airport Festival, taking place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Municipal Airport (26th Street and Bay Avenue). The festival is a free event that will feature a static ground display of unique aircraft, including World War II planes, classic aircraft, and modern warbirds.
A highlight of the festival will be a parachute jump at 12 p.m., depending on wind and weather conditions, by Team Fastrax, “America’s Skydiving Team.” In a special tandem jump, Ocean City Council Vice President Pete Madden is scheduled to join one of the professional skydivers. The team is also scheduled to perform a separate, special “Parachute Pyrotechnic Show” later in the evening.
For those who want a truly unique experience, a half-mile “Runway Run/Walk” is open to all ages, allowing participants to traverse the ground usually reserved for planes. This event will take place immediately following the skydiving jump.
The festival will also include a variety of activities for all ages, such as “Bubble Mania,” face painting, and airplane and coloring contests for children between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Attendees can also purchase helicopter rides, see city vehicle displays, and meet special guests Martin and Mollie Mollusk. Food vendors and music will be on-site to complete the festive atmosphere. Additional parking will be available at Shelter Road, with free shuttle service to the airport.
