Ocean City Boys’ Basketball Wins South Jersey Group 3 Title

The Ocean City High School boys’ basketball team clinched its first South Jersey Group 3 championship since 1999 with a 66-53 victory over Timber Creek. This win secured their spot in the state Group 3 semifinals against Colts Neck High School. ​

Championship Game Highlights

In the final held at Ocean City, the top-seeded Raiders showcased their dominance against the second-seeded Timber Creek. Luke Tjoumakaris led the charge with an impressive 24 points. Forward Josh Lenko contributed 20 points, while Ben McGonigle added 12 points. The Raiders’ defense was equally formidable, limiting Timber Creek’s scoring opportunities.

Throughout the South Jersey Group 3 tournament, Ocean City demonstrated resilience and determination:​

  • First Round (February 26): Defeated Toms River East 54-37, with Lenko leading the team with 15 points. ​
  • Quarterfinals (March 1): Overcame Seneca with a close 43-40 overtime win. Tjoumakaris led with 13 points, and Lenko added 12. ​
  • Semifinals (March 4): Edged out Absegami 51-48, showcasing their ability to perform under pressure.

Looking Ahead

With the sectional title secured, Ocean City (23-6) will face Colts Neck (19-9), the Central Group 3 champions, in the Group 3 semifinals on March 11 at Deptford High School. Colts Neck enters the matchup with momentum, having recently defeated Ewing 52-43 to claim their sectional title.​

The Raiders’ remarkable season has galvanized the Ocean City community, with fans eagerly anticipating the upcoming state semifinal. The team’s success has not only brought pride to the school but has also unified the town in support of their local athletes.​
