Ocean City Football Shuts Out Oakcrest in Season Opener

The Ocean City High School football team, under new head coach Sean Matthews, opened its season with a decisive 32-0 victory over Oakcrest. The Red Raiders were locked in a tight 6-0 battle at halftime before breaking the game open in the second half.

Coach Matthews praised his team’s resilience, noting there were “lots of moments where we could have let a mistake or a bad play bury us. They leaned on each other and fought for 48 minutes”At halftime, the message from the coaches was clear: “To the defense: they don’t score, we win, and to the offense: focus on the details & do your job”.

Matthews gave credit to his offensive line and wide receivers, stating, “We were getting great movement on the line of scrimmage, and our wide receivers did an excellent job blocking downfield to create explosive plays”.
The defense broke the game open, scoring two defensive touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Linebacker Ayden Majors, also known as “Big A,” got the first score by jumping an inside route for an interception and taking it to the house for a pick-six. On the very next series, Aron Desch scooped up a fumble and rumbled into the endzone for the second defensive touchdown.

The Red Raiders will travel to Eastern for their next game on September 4th. Coach Matthews emphasized the importance of preparation, saying, “Practice is everything for us. We need to beat Eastern this week on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday”.
