OCHS Drama Guild Ready to Take Flight with “Peter and the Starcatcher”!
Ocean City, get ready for a magical, high-seas adventure! The Ocean City High School Drama Guild is set to open its dazzling fall play, “Peter and the Starcatcher,” for a limited three-night run! This Tony-winning show is the hilarious and heartwarming prequel to the beloved Peter Pan story, and the buzz around the Hughes Performing Arts Center is electric.
“Peter and the Starcatcher” dives into the thrilling tale of how a nameless, miserable orphan boy ultimately becomes the legendary Peter Pan, the boy who wouldn’t grow up.
The journey begins on a dangerous voyage where the “Boy” and his companions, Ted and Prentiss, meet the fierce and fabulous young Molly Aster, a “Starcatcher” tasked by the Queen herself to protect a mysterious, precious treasure. As they sail the high seas, they’ll face off against bumbling pirates, encounter a remote tribal nation, and even sing with mermaids! Through swashbuckling fights and genuinely sentimental moments, this play is a fantastic reminder that friendship and faith in each other are truly the greatest treasures of all.
What makes this production particularly exciting is its unique style. “Peter and the Starcatcher” embraces “story-telling theatre,” meaning the cast and the audience must rely heavily on their imagination. With minimal props, costumes, and scenery, the actors transform the stage—making a simple rope a raging ocean, and an umbrella a glorious sail. Devoted fans of the classic Peter Pan will be delighted by the frequent, clever references woven into the dialogue and action, adding layers of fun for all ages.
Featuring music, songs, and plenty of unexpected surprises, this adventure is best suited for ages 9 to 99+.
The show boasts a massive and talented ensemble of 40 cast members and a crew of 30 students, all of whom have dedicated four to five days a week since early September to bringing this fantastical world to life.
Keep an eye out for these notable performers:
- Henry Costal as the Boy, who will become “Peter”
- Elizabeth Louis as the formidable “Mrs. Bumbrake”
- Sam Lowe as the dedicated “Lord Leonard Aster”
The OCHS Drama Guild has deep roots in the school’s history and is now in its 21st season in the “new” high school. They produce a play each fall and a musical each spring—with auditions for the Spring 2026 musical, “Guys and Dolls,” set to begin this December!
