OCNJ Half Marathon, 10-Miler, and 5K Set to Bring Runners to Ocean City This Sunday
The streets and boardwalk of Ocean City will be filled with runners this Sunday, September 21, for the annual OCNJ Half Marathon, 10-Miler, and 5K. The event features a Half Marathon (13.1 miles), a 10-mile non-competitive run/walk, and a 5K race. The courses are known for being fast and flat, offering runners scenic views of the boardwalk, downtown, and the ocean. The half-marathon has previously been recognized as the “Best New Jersey Half Marathon.” All three races are expected to draw a large crowd of participants and spectators.
Last-Chance Registration and Packet Pickup
For those still wishing to participate, online registration for the Half Marathon and 10-Miler closes Wednesday, September 17, at 4 p.m. In-person registration will be available during packet pickup at the Ocean City Music Pier (Boardwalk at Moorlyn Terrace) on Friday, September 19, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, September 20, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Race-day registration will only be available for the 5K, starting at 6:30 a.m. at the Music Pier.
Race Day Schedule and Important Information
The OCNJ Half Marathon and 10-Miler will both begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5K start at 8:40 a.m. All three races will start and finish at the Ocean City Music Pier.
The event will lead to some temporary road closures and delays. The Ocean City-Longport Bridge will be closed to traffic from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on race day. Drivers on other streets should also expect brief delays as runners pass. For the safety of the runners, bicycles will not be permitted on the Boardwalk from 5 a.m. to noon on Sunday.
Community Encouraged to Cheer on Runners
The City of Ocean City is encouraging the public to come out and support the runners as they make their way through the scenic course. Volunteer groups will also be manning “peppy” water stations, adding to the festive atmosphere. These volunteers will be judged on their station themes. Groups interested in volunteering can contact Lisa Rumer at [email protected].
