Rutgers Athletics Taps Ocean City Native Maggie Long to Lead Development Efforts
Rutgers University Athletics and the Rutgers Foundation have announced the appointment of Margaret (Maggie) Long as the new Vice President & Chief Development Officer, Athletics Development. Long’s return to “The Banks” marks a significant boost for the Scarlet Knights’ fundraising efforts, particularly as the university navigates the evolving landscape of collegiate sports. Her leadership is viewed by Athletic Director Keli Zinn and Rutgers Foundation President Kimberly Hopely as key to positioning Rutgers Athletics for future success.
In her pivotal new role, Long will focus on securing philanthropic resources to fuel a winning culture, both on the field and in the classroom. A primary focus will be raising funds for the newly established Athletic Excellence Fund, an initiative that provides direct financial support to Scarlet Knight student-athletes.
“Returning to the Banks feels like coming home, and my family and I are so grateful to be part of a community that means so much to so many,” said Long. “The energy and vision surrounding Rutgers Athletics are inspiring, and I can’t wait to get started.”
Long brings a proven commitment to New Jersey and a wealth of experience, having previously served in key development roles at Rutgers before moving to the Hackensack Meridian Health Foundation.
Long’s appointment deepens the connections between the university’s leadership and the South Jersey shore community. Maggie Long is a proud graduate of Ocean City High School and an esteemed alumnus of the Ocean City Beach Patrol (OCBP).
The connection to Rutgers Athletics is a family affair: Maggie’s sister, Meredith (Long) Civico, is the highly successful head field hockey coach at Rutgers University, having led the program to its first-ever Big Ten Tournament title and multiple NCAA Tournament appearances.
Maggie Long holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from William and Mary University and a Master of Arts from Monmouth University.
Best of luck to Maggie in her new role!
