Surf conditions in Ocean City, New Jersey, are currently considered hazardous. Officials from the beach patrol are enforcing strict bathing restrictions.
In a statement, Chief of the Ocean City Beach Patrol, Eric Becker, emphasized the importance of safety:
“There is no swimming on beaches where lifeguards are not present. Beach patrons are permitted to wade ankle deep in front of a guarded lifeguard stand only, during normal guarded hours.” He added, “There is absolutely no swimming after the guards have left.”
The National Weather Service has issued a high risk of rip currents advisory, meaning life-threatening conditions are likely. The surf zone is considered dangerous for all swimmers, regardless of skill level.
