More Than a Bottle: Passion Vines Brings a Gourmet Marketplace to Egg Harbor Township
A new space inside the EHT store aims to turn “What should I buy?” into “What can I create?”
Anyone who has wandered into Passion Vines in Egg Harbor Township knows the visit is rarely just about grabbing a bottle. Customers come in with a dinner to plan, friends to host, a milestone to toast, or a gift to find. Now the store is building an entire space around those moments.
The Marketplace at Passion Vines is taking shape at the front of the EHT store. Soft opening days will run through early November, with a Grand Opening planned for mid-November—just ahead of Thanksgiving and the winter holidays. We sat down with Brooke Pileggi, the Passion Vines team member leading the project, to learn how the idea came together and what shoppers can expect.
A Lightbulb Moment Born From Listening
The idea didn’t come from a boardroom. It came from the sales floor.
“The lightbulb moment really came from listening to our customers,” Pileggi said. “We realized that people weren’t just coming to Passion Vines looking for a great bottle of wine or spirits, they were coming to us because they were planning a dinner, hosting friends, celebrating a milestone, or looking for a special gift.”
That realization raised a simple question. “Why send someone to three or four different places to find wine, the gourmet food, the unique mixers, the gift, or the finishing touches when we could bring those pieces together under one roof?”
The staff had been hearing the same requests again and again. “We constantly hear questions like, ‘What should I serve with this?’ ‘Do you have something special for a hostess gift?’ or ‘Can you help me put something together?'” Pileggi said. “Those conversations showed us that customers were looking for more than the beverage. They wanted help creating the whole occasion.”
From “What Should I Buy?” to “What Can I Create?”
Passion Vines has long built its reputation on hospitality, education, tastings and events, and Pileggi sees the Marketplace as the next natural step.
“For us, creating an experience means helping a customer go from ‘What should I buy?’ to ‘What can I create?'” she said. “Maybe they’re having six friends over for dinner. Maybe they’re putting together a holiday gift. Maybe they want to create a great cocktail night. We want our team and our product to help bring that vision to life.”
The bigger goal, she explained, is for Passion Vines to become “a destination for entertaining, gifting, gathering and celebrating, rather than simply a place to purchase a bottle.”
A Space Designed to Inspire
Shoppers expecting another liquor store aisle are in for a surprise. The Marketplace occupies a large area at the front of the EHT store, outfitted with butcher block farmhouse tables and shelving for gourmet foods, entertaining essentials and seasonal displays.
“The space is designed to feel more like a gourmet market and entertaining destination than a traditional liquor-store aisle,” Pileggi said. “We want the space itself to inspire customers.”
What’s on the Shelves
The team is focused on products that are high quality, unique, on trend, and locally made whenever possible. Shoppers will find:
- Entertaining foods, including charcuterie, artisan cheeses, specialty snacks, sauces, spreads, tinned fish and chocolates, many of which “you won’t find in the local grocery store,” according to Pileggi
- Better-for-you options, such as gluten-free items and healthier alternatives
- Premium mixers and non-alcoholic beverages, including an expanded selection of functional drinks for the growing number of customers embracing mindful drinking
- Entertaining supplies, from charcuterie boards, quality glassware and crystal decanters to bar tools, wine charms, cocktail napkins, ceramics and “all the essentials to build the perfect bar cart”
- Gifts, including cocktail recipe books, cookbooks, candles, locally made artwork and ready-made gift baskets
And the selection won’t stand still. “The assortment will continue to evolve,” Pileggi said. “We want customers to have a reason to come back and discover something new season to season.”
Thinking Beyond the Bottle
What sets the Marketplace apart from a typical specialty shop is the beverage expertise behind it. Pileggi says the team’s knowledge of wine, spirits and craft beer gives them a natural starting point for pairing.
“We can look at a bottle of wine, whiskey, tequila, or craft beer and think beyond the bottle,” she said. “What food pairs with it, what cocktail could be created, or how it could become part of a great gift.”
Expect displays built around real-life occasions, such as a weekend cocktail night, a wine-and-cheese gathering, a backyard barbecue, a holiday celebration or a casual dinner with friends.
The hope is that a quick errand turns into a spark of inspiration. “We want our customers to come in for a bottle of wine and leave thinking, ‘I should try this with dinner,’ or ‘This would make a great hostess gift,’ or ‘I want to have a party like this,'” Pileggi said. “The goal is for someone to walk in with an idea, even a very simple one, and leave with the pieces to make it happen.”
