‘It All Starts Here’: Community Rallies for Food Drive Amid Federal Shutdown

A local food drive has been extended to help residents facing an imminent food crisis as the ongoing federal government shutdown threatens to delay November’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

Collective Vibes, is serving as a community drop-off point, has extended its collection drive through Saturday, November 8, 2025.

The drive is a direct response to the federal funding lapse, which has put local families in a vulnerable position.

“With the impending delay of SNAP funding due to the government shutdown, people are immediately in need,” said owner Court Lloyd. “At the end of the day, we’re all human, and helping each other is what truly matters,” Lloyd said. “This food drive is simply a way to make sure our neighbors have what they need to get through tough times.”

All donations will be given directly to two local food banks: the Ocean City Community Food Cupboard on 8th Street and the Community Food Bank of NJ in Egg Harbor Township.

Organizers are accepting non-perishable food items as well as other essential supplies.

“Yes, donations of other essentials like diapers will be accepted and donated,” Lloyd confirmed.

Due to the direct-to-food-bank nature of the drive, gift cards cannot be accepted.

For those who wish to contribute remotely, an Amazon Wishlist has been created where items can be purchased and shipped directly to the collection point.

“It all starts right here in our own community,” Lloyd added. “I’m so grateful for the way we show up for each other, giving what we can and engage with purpose. When we act with intention, it creates a ripple effect that reaches farther than we realize.”

• In-Person Drop-off: Donations can be dropped off at Collective Vibes, 936 Haven Ave, Unit A, Ocean City, NJ.
• Drop-off Hours:
  • Monday–Thursday: 9:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • Friday & Saturday: 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
• Donation Deadline: Saturday, November 8, 2025.
