OCNJ CARE Steps Up to Help Neighbors in Need This Thanksgiving

For many, the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday means gathering for a joyous feast with family and friends. But for others, the daily grind of simply putting food on the table is a source of stress, let alone providing a nice, festive holiday meal. Despite Ocean City’s reputation as an upscale haven and its residents’ generally being perceived as “well to do,” there is a less-seen, quiet reality beneath the surface: a good number of year-round residents are struggling financially. Individuals, seniors, and families are living month-to-month and paycheck-to-paycheck, often invisible amidst the wealth.

While various church organizations and state or federal entities offer aid, some can be inconvenient or overburdened, leaving critical gaps in assistance. That’s where OCNJ CARE is stepping in to help its neighbors.

OCNJ CARE is a local non-profit (501c-3) organization with a history of community support.

  • Founded following Hurricane Sandy with the mission of assisting Ocean City residents and businesses displaced or affected by the storm.
  • Reformed during the Covid-19 pandemic with a similar goal of helping those impacted by the restrictions created by the crisis.

For the past several years, OCNJ CARE has embraced a vital initiative: providing Thanksgiving gift cards to those qualified through the City of Ocean City Social Services Department. This crucial effort is entirely funded by the generosity of community donations.

“We are a country of abundance, and a community of abundance,” said Drew Fasy, OCNJ CARE Chairperson. “Our organization tries to help members of our community when needed, and we are only able to do that through the generosity of our community.”
