Faith, Identity, and the Power of Truth: Unspoken to Bring “IV” Tour to the Ocean City Tabernacle

Unspoken Ocean City Tabernacle

The historic Ocean City Tabernacle is preparing to host an evening of profound musical testimony as the acclaimed Christian band Unspoken takes the stage on Saturday May 2nd. Known for a soulful blend of pop, rock, and R&B, the band arrives in America’s Greatest Family Resort with a fresh collection of songs from their fourth studio project, aptly titled IV.

For over 150 years, the Tabernacle has served as a beacon of spiritual renewal for residents and vacationers alike. This upcoming performance promises to continue that legacy, offering more than just a concert—it’s an invitation to explore the “unspoken” truths of faith that sustain us through life’s inevitable storms.

A Foundation That Can’t Be Shaken

At the heart of Unspoken’s latest work is a simple yet radical concept: the unwavering love of God. In an era where culture shifts like sand, lead singer Chad Mattson believes these fundamental principles are the bedrock of a secure life.

“That’s really the foundation of our whole life,” Mattson says. “It’s amazing to me, after 21 years of walking with the Lord, how I still need to be reminded that He loves me.”

This theme of divine affection permeates the new setlist, from the pop-centric energy of “Loved By You” to the celebratory anthem “Love Is Everything We Need.” The latter serves as a poignant reminder that in a divided world, loving our enemies remains the most powerful course of action available to us.

Defining Identity in a Digital Age

One of the most anticipated moments of the night will undoubtedly be the performance of the anchor track, “What He Says About You.” Written by Mattson and bandmate Jon Lowry alongside a team of ace songwriters, the guitar-heavy selection was born out of Mattson’s desire to speak truth into the hearts of his young daughters.

In a world of social media filters and external pressures, the song challenges the false labels society places on individuals. Mattson admits the message is for the parents in the audience just as much as the children.

“I allow a lot more things from the outside world to inform my identity than I do Scripture. I often find myself on my phone more than I’m in the Word,” he confesses. “There’s only one voice that matters, and it’s the voice of God.”

For the Ocean City community—a place where family values are championed—this message of finding one’s worth in being “chosen, held, forgiven, and treasured” by the Creator is sure to resonate deeply.

Vulnerability, Sobriety, and “More Church Than Church”

Unspoken has never been a band to shy away from the raw realities of the human experience. Their discography is a “parade of hits” fueled by transparency, including chart-toppers like “Start a Fire,” “Reason,” and “You’ve Always Been.”

The new album continues this streak of honesty with the track “More Church Than Church.” Featuring country star Walker Hayes, the song draws on Mattson’s 20-year journey of sobriety. It highlights a powerful irony: sometimes the most “holy” moments happen in the basement of an AA meeting rather than under a polished steeple.

“We love to masquerade around, pretending that we have it all together,” Mattson offers. “But what I’ve found is there’s a healing that comes through transparency. There’s this powerful thing that happens through confession.”

A Community United in Worship

The band—comprised of Mattson, Lowry, keyboardist Matthew Callaway, and drummer Ariel Munoz—has shared the stage with giants like TobyMac and MercyMe, yet they maintain a grassroots connection to their audience. Beyond the music, Mattson remains dedicated to helping others find hope through Bible studies in partnership with Soldiers For Faith, a ministry focused on applying the Word of God to daily life.

This commitment to the “Body of Christ” is what fans can expect at the Tabernacle. Whether it’s the worshipful offering of “Say The Word,” which encourages listeners to bring whatever small measure of faith they have to Jesus, or the joy-filled “Where My Joy Comes From,” the evening is designed to point the spotlight away from the stage and toward the Divine.

Join the Celebration

As Unspoken brings their “unspoken testimonies” to the Jersey Shore, the goal remains simple: to create an environment where the little we have to bring is woven into something amazing by God.

“Recognizing your value and what you bring to the table, even though it might be different, is so important,” says Mattson. “I just hope people experience God in some way through the music.”
