Making History: NJ Surf South Shore Girls Soccer Team Headed to Nationals!
A new chapter in local sports history has been written! The NJ Surf South Shore girls soccer team has won its first regional title ever and will now prepare to compete at the National Championship in Kansas this July.
Located in Ocean View, this driven team has been gaining momentum over the past four years. Their dedication, exceptional teamwork, and strong determination have now propelled them to the top of the Northeast region.
A True South Jersey Powerhouse
What makes this squad truly special is its ability to unite the community. The team consists of talented young athletes from various towns in Cape May and Atlantic counties, such as Ocean City, Upper Township, Northfield, Somers Point, Egg Harbor Township, Mays Landing, and Wildwood.
Under Coach Leon Brown’s guidance, these players have formed a cohesive, highly communicative team that excels on the field and motivates off it. In addition to their soccer talent, they are outstanding student-athletes and role models, with many serving in the Junior National Honor Society and engaging in various school sports and clubs.
A Season to Remember
The journey to the National Championship has been marked by numerous trophies and memorable, tense moments. Earlier this year, the team won both the EDP Spring Challenge and the esteemed President’s State Cup.
But their true strength was demonstrated at the Northeast Regional Championship. Competing against five top teams in their age group, the Surf South Shore girls remained undefeated throughout four days of fierce competition. They achieved three outstanding wins and one draw, scoring 12 goals and allowing only two.
The journey featured clutch performances throughout. In the President’s Cup, the team scored a remarkable goal in overtime to advance. At Regionals, they showcased a brilliant header that tied a vital match, sustaining their hopes for the national championship.
Next Stop: Kansas!
This year, only eight elite teams from across the U.S. qualified for the National Tournament, which runs from July 7th to July 11th.
Representing South Jersey nationally is a great honor, but it involves substantial travel costs. The estimated expense for each of the 16 players attending—covering flights, lodging, meals, and local transportation—is about $3,000 per player, including one family member.
The team is on a mission to ensure that every single player can share in this unforgettable, hard-earned opportunity to compete for a national title.
How You Can Help!
Let’s show these girls the power of our local community! A GoFundMe page has been set up to help offset travel costs and make sure the whole squad gets to Kansas.
